AI resumes and portfolios that get interviews

Lesson 2 of 4 in AI Job Search in Canada — Resume, Portfolio & Interviews · 15 minutes

How to adapt international AI/ML experience to a Canadian-context resume and build a portfolio that demonstrates real engineering capability.

What you'll learn

  • Structure an AI engineering resume for Canadian conventions
  • Frame international ML experience effectively
  • Connect resume, GitHub and LinkedIn into one evidence trail
  • Practise explaining a resume bullet in a role-play

From the lesson

AI/ML resumes face technical scrutiny most resumes don't. Recruiters skim for keywords; hiring managers read for substance — they will notice if your bullets are vague, your projects unfalsifiable, or your portfolio empty. The IEP candidate's challenge is double: convince a recruiter (often non-technical) to advance you despite international background, then survive a hiring manager's technical read. The patterns below work in both contexts.

**The Canadian AI resume — structure**

*One page if under 8 years experience; two pages maximum.* Canadian convention is concise. Long international CVs (3-5 pages) hurt you — recruiters scan in 30 seconds. Cut to the highest-impact content.
